Citability Audit

Citability asks whether a paragraph can be lifted into an AI answer and still remain accurate, complete, and trustworthy.

Check page citability

What makes a passage citable

Citable passages usually include a clear subject, a specific claim, enough context, and verifiable detail. Definitions, steps, comparisons, constraints, data points, and short examples work better than vague marketing copy.

How to audit manually

Break the page into sections and ask three questions for each: does this passage stand alone, does it answer a specific question, and does it have factual support or clear experience behind it?

How to rewrite

Lead with the conclusion, then add context. Name the object before describing it. State limitations before promises. For tool pages, explain what the tool does, what it does not do, who it is for, and what to do next.

Core checks

Whether the intro directly defines the topic

Whether each section answers one specific question

Whether passages include facts, steps, conditions, or limits

Whether important claims have sources, data, or product behavior behind them

Whether the page avoids vague adjectives and absolute promises

FAQ

Is citability the same as readability?

No. Readability is about how easy text is for people to read. Citability is about whether an extracted passage stays complete, accurate, and trustworthy in an AI answer.

Are shorter paragraphs always better?

No. Short paragraphs reduce extraction cost, but the passage still needs a clear subject, context, and factual substance.
